Happy Monday GIVEAWAY: Peacock Plume!

Howdy do, Austin!

Well, plenty to report from this weekend: From one of the coolest art shows I've ever attended, to seeing a stranger's bare man parts in the most unusual of places. Which I certainly hope is an intriguing sentence.

Anyway, I'll try to finish that story up for tomorrow, but today, we have a tasty treat for the ladies.  Peacock Plume is a newly-launched Anthropologie-meets-Strut online boutique by two Austin women, Cara Morgan and Holly Hargrove. Several months ago, the two embarked on a mission to create a clothing shop for the stylish, frugal dame, with pieces well within the starving artist's (or starving college student's) budget. The solution? Eschew the overhead of a storefront, and open a boutique online. Every item they sell is under $70, with most items - dresses, jewelry, etc. - below $40.

Today they have stopped by Austin Eavesdropper to introduce themselves, so say hello to Cara and Holly! Also, Peacock Plume is graciously giving away one item - anything you want - from Peacock Plume to one lucky Eavesdropper reader.

Check out the interview below, as well as a few of my favorite pieces from the site, then follow the instructions at the bottom to enter. I'll select a winner (at random) by Thursday at noon.

Welcome to Austin Eavesdropper, Cara and Holly! Tell us a little bit about Peacock Plume.

Peacock Plume is an online boutique specializing in affordable women's clothing and accessories. We just launched our site and want everyone to stop by: www.peacockplume.com.

What are your backgrounds, and how did you guys get the idea to start this store together?

Cara is a chemical engineer and Holly, an interior designer. We have been friends since high school and have always shared a love of fashion and shopping. We have been told numerous times that we have an eye for what women want, and a knack for putting together unique outfits others wouldn't think of. This lead to our vision of having a boutique where styling was a big component - not just selling pretty clothing. We wanted to help others put together amazing outfits that won't break the bank.

What's the "style" of the clothes here? Meaning, what kind of gal would like shopping at Peacock Plume?

I think our clothes lean a little towards the girly and romantic, but we definitely pieces on our site diverse enough to please almost any style.

How would you describe your own styles?

Our styles are slightly different... Cara is more classic and romantic while Holly tends to be a little more eclectic. We have fun with what we wear, and we don't take ourselves too seriously or really care what others think! We can honestly say that our style depends on the day and our attitude. Both of us are perfectly comfortable going from a classic dress and heels, to romantic floral sun dresses, to tribal-inspired jewelry or funky layered pieces. Fashion is about expressing yourself and having fun doing so!

Thanks so much for stopping by Austin Eavesdropper! Any parting words for our lovely readers?

Thanks for taking a moment to read about Peacock Plume, we hope you'll visit the site soon!

Currently, I've been donning a big, ridiculously blingy gold chain necklace, with a huge scorpion pendant hanging from it. It's from Blue Velvet. I can't tell whether it's fashion-forward...or comical. Which is why I adore it so.

good luck!

Ooh ooh me! My favorite item are probably my pair of faded, red leather cowboy boots. I got them in Kansas years ago on a road trip and they are perfectly faded and worn in. I wear them EVERYWHERE.

one item i have been wearing a lot lately is this denim vest i bought a few seasons ago. it almost went away to top drawer thrift during my last closet clean out, but i decided to give it one more chance and now it's a wardrobe staple! don't worry, it's not as early 90s as it sounds...

Oh gosh, my favorite item in my closet right now is my snake cuff earring from Alchemy Gothic. It's weird enough to freak my mother out, but eclectic enough to receive compliments from many people my age.
Regardless, I don't care! I love wearing it.

my current favorite is a gold dipped leaf necklace i bought on south congress from taylormoseley (http://www.taylormoseley.com/). i had almost purchased one similar on etsy but then didn't because i decided i wanted to start buying all my jewelry from local producers. when i found her, i was so thrilled i didn't even look at the price tag and just bought it. the leaf reminds me of my late grandfather, who was a forester in north carolina. he used to take me on nature hikes through the woods in their backyard and teach me about trees and how to recognize them based on what their leaves look like. love love love my necklace (and love love love him).

Recently discovered Peacock Plume. Amazing stuff and I fell even more in love when I discovered the 2 female phenoms that started it are from Austin!
I have a ton of fave go-to-items in my closet but if I had to pick just one I'd probably say....my new sunshine yellow cardigan. Surprisingly, it goes with everything and brightens gloomy days!

Favorite item is one that I never wear- my grandmother's cashmere coat (a rare indulgence) that I've had a few years now. The sleeves are too short- the cut incredibly boxy- one day I will have it professionally tailored- but the sentimental value makes it my favorite piece ever EVER.

weird for me to mention that when it is 90+ degrees outside- so it goes to show how incredible this coat is. ha.

love the blog!

The one garment that I'd flee with in a fire would be my drapey silver cardigan from Zara. Bought it years ago but it goes with absolutely everything and somehow keeps me cool when I'm warm, and warm when I'm cool.

My current favorite is a vintage slip I bought in a thrift shop in New Orleans. It's got this detailed lace and gauzy neck that keeps it from looking too much like lingerie. So cute!

I am loving all these personal closet faves. (Jordan - LEATHER MOTORCYCLE BOOTS! Meow! At first I read that as "black leather motorcycle pants," and was getting ready to be *seriously* impressed.)

Just for kicks, I thought I'd throw another one of mine in: This somewhat Parisian, thrifted black-and-white striped sweater I got at Buffalo Exchange about a year ago. It's loose, with a wide boatneck collar, except for the fitted black waist. During Fall I pretty much live in it. Something about it makes me feel like Audrey Hepburn, who I am so far from it's not even funny! But it's nice to have an item in your closet that makes you feel like a classic lady, non?

Keep 'em coming you guys - I love these!

my favorite item is this awesome gold necklace with a lions face in it. Its big and real cheap looking, but my grandmother gave it to me and i think its fucking fierce.

affordable! my heroines! I'm an avid thrift store shopper that would love to shop vintage, but way too pricey for my current budget.

my current fav item from the closet are these gold leaf earrings I picked up from a thrift store in Nevada for $5. I can't get enough of them and I didn't even wear gold jewelry before I got these!

Hello there! My name is Jessica and I'm with the Aha Crew. I stumbled upon your site (in preparation for tomorrow), and thought I'd comment too!

My current favorite is a lovely pair of cowboy boots that suit just about any setting. Originally from Athens, Ga, I love the character they add to my skirts and dressed (and jeans and shorts), as we travel across the country.

Looking forward to meeting you tomorrow!

My absolute favorite thing in my closet has to be my pink and black cowboy boots. i got them from some guy a few years ago. i saw one boot up on a shelf, and then i basically had to sift through all the junk in his shop to find the matching boot. but hey, they have butterflies stitched into them so it was totally worth it!

ooooh, I love this post and all the answers from the girls! My favorite go-to piece this spring has been a white sleeveless tank that I recently acquired from the downSTAIRS that says "CREATE YOUR OWN FUTURE" in a pattern that mimics embroidery. At this current stage in my life, it is a source of inspiration to live life outside of my comfort range and to DO IT! When I wear this tank I feel on top of the world.

Now THAT is a good piece of clothing.

My favorite item in my closet right now is my Indah white cotton pants I purchased at Mana Culture. The top of the pants fold over my butt and front (about 6 inches of fold-over with fringe hanging down). The pant legs are wide, like elephant pants. They are SO LIGHT and AIRY (and slightly see-through). They scream BEACH!!! I wear them with tank tops and sandals, wedges, or other light & airy items. Perfect for Austin weather. I'm so ready for this summer!!!

entering this contest with less than an hour to go! yeek! i hope i win! :)

fave thing in my closet: my oval medium sized silver locket, engraved with dainty flowers, on a silver chain. it was given to me by my grandparents for my 7th birthday, and inside there are 2 pictures, one of my dad and one of my mom. <3

also, things i love so dearly i can't leave them out: my strappy black high heels i got at age 15 at an h&m in paris, my great grandmothers silver and diamond wedding ring, and my american apparel purple figure skater dress--it's a daunting dress, hard to pull off, but it's so silly and flashy and shiny and obnoxious that i can't help loving it to bits.

My current favorite accessory is a compass necklace from Urban Outfitters.

It layers well with other necklaces, and I get tons of compliments on it, but that's not why I love it so much.

See, the compass doesn't always work; often times it just spins and spins at random.

When I look down at it I can't help but smile and think that thankfully I'm not the only thing in this world that loses their direction sometimes. :)
