Tell us a secret, WIN TICKETS: The 5 x 7 Art Social

Hello petunias. Did you have a good weekend? Call your mothers?

I am pretty excited about our ticket giveaway today. People who create provocative, unusual art blow my mind a little. Like Nick Henning. Or Knitta Please. The East Austin Studio Tour is one of my favorite events every year, and before it closed, I remember the first time I stepped foot on the property of Enchanted Forest...and really did enter a portal into another world.

We're so lucky to have the creative, whacked-out minds we do in Austin.  This Friday there is an art party, with food, drinks, and music, and you can even take some artist creations home with you. Austin Eavesdropper is giving away a pair of passes!

Here are some of my favorite artists, whose pieces you may see there.

 M. Foster (and top photograph)

Faith Gay (whose artist statement I fancy. "Using a layering process of tape and paper, a unique and organic form develops – recycling and reinterpreting civilized waste back to life. It's primitive. It's trash imitating art imitating nature. It's a rainbow made of tape.")

Sterling Allen (he made these houses from stuff he found on the streets in my hometown...San Antonio! The roof shingles are old VCR tapes).

So, the party is Five x Seven Social, a fundraiser for Arthouse, and it features more than 1,000 5-inch by 7-inch original works of art from over 900 emerging and established artists. Many or from Austin, Texas more largely, but several are far-flung artists from around the country. It's happening at The Whitley (301 Brazos St., where the SXSW Perez party was), and all works of art will be displayed anonymously.  You'll discover the creator of the work only after you've made it your own. Pretty neat, huh?

Food will be provided by Frank (yum), there will be drinks, and a live set by Balmorhea. This is consistently one of the most well-attended art shows by young Austin because it is just so radass.

Tickets are $30, but we are giving one pair (you and a lovely date, $60 value). I will pick the winner by Thursday at noon. TO ENTER:

-Leave your email address
-Tell us a secret. Can be, "If I could I would eat sweet potatoes every day" (that's my secret). Or something more scandalous, if you like. You're the boss.

good luck!

PS: I forgot this point of trivia. James Moody, the guy who owns Mohawk? And helped make our fabulous Bleet-Up party last year possible? He's the Chair for the Five x Seven Committee! It's nice to know that our city's king of nightlife supports this kind of stuff.

My secret: I wish I could be a vegetarian, but I'm weak and just love hamburgers too much.

Ok ok, since a million people are Tweeting but no one's coughing up secrets, I'm gonna tell a juicy one to loosen y'all up.

Years and years ago, I spent a couple of months posing naked for art classes at ACC. I was saving up $$ to go to India and they paid well. This is absolutely true.

I've ended relationships because I always thought I didn't want to get married, but recently I've decided that I really do want a HUSBAND some day. :0

I never mailed in my absentee ballot in the first presidential election for which was eligible to vote. It is still sealed, but I'm 80% sure I voted Republican, which is unbearable.

@Lady J - That's ok. During my first presidential election, I voted for NADER. Classic example of idealism trumping practicality; I'm so sorry Al Gore! (and planet Earth!)

My Secret: I had an "osum" female friend waaaaaay back in 3rd grade whom I've long wanted to reconnect with, but age, life and location are my enemies... anywhoo... She seems to have a great life as a famous austinite underground diva and I wish her all the best! :) -Me

My friend asked if I wanted to talk to the guy she had a huge crush on over IM one night, as she was really tired. I agreed, and 5 hours later, he and I were still talking. Our clandestine chatting continued for weeks until we decided we had to meet each other. Our meeting was straight out of romance novel territory, and being completely enamored of each other, we began a relationship. He was an excellent writer and began posting poems to his blog about his new secret love, and of course my friend was one of his readers. Our relationship lasted several months until he moved overseas, and she never guessed that the girl memorialized in his poetry was me. She and I, although we live in different countries now, are still friends to this day.

Secrets? I gots secrets... *sigh*

In 6th grade i dated a girl just to break up with her on April Fools day :/ (precious huh?)

Oh and i once did a tap duet to one of the songs from Gypsy (Thanks mom!)

And i once broke up with someone because they had too many moles on their back (in my defense it was more like dating a 3 dimensional topographic map though) (too many moles still creep me out. sorry.)

I have a scar on my leg that resembles a bullet hole. I jokingly told one of my best friends years ago that when I was 7, I was shot in the leg by a drunk guy... in the woods... and he believed me. He has since told that story numerous times at parties, and I just go along with it: "Yeah, it was really traumatic; I still have nightmares..." blah blah blah. After about 10 years of this, I finally came clean. Now he doesn't believe anything I say.

I once went on a few dates with a dominatrix named Luiki (pronounced Lucky) Those were the days...
Best part about it was hearing all the fucked up things her clients would ask her to do, my favorite being the guy that liked to get shrink wrapped.

When I was 10, I broke my little brother's firetruck he won at some fair or something. It was, of course, his favorite. He looked for it everywhere and was inconsolable for at least a few days. I never told. Might be the worst thing I ever did. Phewf, nice to get that off my chest. Tony, if you're reading, I'm sorry.

@Sandra!!! :D That secret just made my whole entire morning. Where did you get that idea?

People - I think this might be my favorite post ever. @ApprehensionInAustin, dude. If I went to a Duran Duran concert now, I think I would have a religious experience.

When I was 10, a friend misled me into thinking that using too much shampoo would make you lose your hair. So, my hair looked like I had taken a dip in the Gulf of Mexico.

Then I broke my wrist and my mom had to wash my hair in the sink every day, and I realized that using a teaspoon of shampoo in some misguided attempt to keep my hair from falling out simply didn't look as good as using a healthy dollop of Aveda.
