Austin Free Week is here!

You guys!  Are you broke as a joke from the holidays?  Me too.

But that doesn't mean we can't still have fun here in ATX.  The wonderful thing about living in a city full of artists is we don't judge when you don't have any money.  In fact we celebrate it!  And that's why we have Free Week.

Austin Town Hall, Ultra8201, and Austinist have already compiled great lists of all the stuff going on.  (Go check out Austinist's slideshow of Free Week posters especially.)  But if I had to choose just one venue, just one night, and see a whole mess of free shows all at once, this is the one I'd choose.

That crew is playing INSIDE at Mohawk, which might be the most intimate venue you will ever see Ume at again.  For free no less. They got super-popular super-fast in 2009, non?  I like the song "Sunflower" a lot.  (You know what else I like?  That swingy blond hair.)

OUTSIDE at Mohawk that same night, The Great Nostalgic, Brazos, and TV Torso are playing!

If you have been reading this blog for a little while you already know how much we love The Great Nostalgic.  They played at the Bleet-Up last November and their drummer, Vince Durcan (seated far right in this picture) is one of my favorite emailers of all time.  He's a man who doesn't shy away from exclamation points, and I really like that in a man. Or a person in general.

Have fun at Free Week everybody!
