Birthday Cookie.

My friend Michael made me this personalized birthday card.  I'm kind of in love with it.

I have admittedly been having a week of true writer's block, so much so that my only post this week wasn't even written by me!  But by my husband!  (And didn't he do a good job?  Ross is hilarious.)

Like, I can't Tweet, I can't cleverly Facebook update, and I sure as hell can't write a blog post.  For my birthday, could someone please reach into my brain and find some eloquence?  Thank you!

(And if not, this baby deer will also work.)

But today is a special day, because I am newly 29, so I'm going to let myself off the hook.  Rather than write, I'm going to show you pictures of my new favorite cookie.  I just ate it at Quack's

Yeah, that's right, I shot it from multiple angles.  So that you could fully appreciate the succulence of the Vegan Trail Mix Cookie, the most misunderstood of pastries.  Are cookies 'pastries?'  Let's say yes.

Unlike my other favorite Quack's cookie, the Salty Oat Cookie, the Vegan Trail Mix Cookie doesn't get a vaunted place in the shiny display case.  Instead, they sit unceremoniously in a basket perched atop the case, individually wrapped in plastic.  If you didn't know they were there, you'd probably miss them.   And in fact, many people do: each has a sticker indicating the day it was prepared, as if to say, "It's not too late?  I think I'm still edible?"

But just like granola cereal can be surprisingly satisfying, so secretly naughty, the Vegan Trail Mix Cookie is decadence masquerading as virtue.  You must try it at least once in your life, even if your friends make fun of you.  I recommend ordering it on your birthday.

Here I am, reverently eating the Vegan Trail Mix Cookie.  Can you see the concentration on my face?  It's pretty serious business.

Back home from Quack's now, I just want to say that this post would not be complete without saying thank you to my friends, family, and sweet husband for your tremendous birthday wishes.  A magical unicorn dressed in a whole suit of Vegan Trail Mix cookies couldn't even come close to you guys!  I love you so much that it makes me tear up, so I'm going to stop typing.  Have a wonderful day!

Huisache Grill / One of the coolest birthday presents ever.

Have any of you visited Huisache Grill in New Braunfels?

Ross and I ventured down a few weeks ago for my birthday. Look at this dashing couple we discovered!

Hi Mom and Dad. You're looking quite studly in your leather jacket, sir.

Huisache Grill is the new "in-between" restaurant for my parents (who live in San Antonio) and Ross and I.  I can't quite remember how they discovered it, but it's built literally next door to the train tracks, and when the train rolls by you can look out the window and see it a little more than an arm's reach away. It also has its own wine bar. And because wine + odd novelties = Moseley Family solid gold, we've been eating there often.

What a carnivorous family, right? Anyway, the food here is delicious, and largely country club-type dishes. Bacon-wrapped sirloin, salmon cakes, turkey club sandwiches. No Burmese-fusion or surprise sushi rolls here, but sometimes you crave simple food. You know. 'Merican.

For my birthday, my parents gave me the most awesome present ever: a vintage jewelry box, filled with vintage necklaces, earrings, rings, brooches - WHEE! I was ecstatic, and have been wearing around my new treasures everywhere.

Ross looks a little weary, probably because I just squealed in his ear.

Just a typical husband and wife!

A glimpse into last night's Glam Off: my husband, Ross, and I, Tolly. I realize it's confusing; you probably thought you were looking at David Bowie and Prince!

Don't you think this is how we should dress every day?

TONIGHT: David Bowie, Prince, and YOU. Glam Night at the HIGHBALL.

Hello, dear Austin Eavesdropper readers. What are you doing tonight? Does it involve glitter? I hope so!

My buddy Candace Carlisle of Electric Promotions are having a joint birthday party together at Highball tonight, and it is open to all. No RSVP necessary, just come.

The theme is glam, SO we're having a live David Bowie/Iggy Pop set at 10pm (provided by local faves Frantic Clam), and a Prince set at 11pm (provided by Lost Werks and The Lennings). Then it's all-night (well, until 2am anyway) glam music video dance party!  New York Dolls!  Blondie!  Lady Gaga!

Basically anyone who wears sequins!

On that note, I am dressing up as Bowie and my outfit is halfway finished. Here is the look I am going for:

Oh David Bowie, you are just the dreamiest. I was also thinking of this look, but would you believe that one-sleeve one-legged patchwork unitards are surprisingly hard to find?

Oh well, while I hunt down the rest of my outfit, here is the song I'm singing for inspiration. Even though it is Prince.

Yes! Is this not the most ridiculous. I think they borrowed the set from a Jane Fonda exercise video series. I love you Prince!

Highball typically gets a line anyway on Saturday night so you might want to come early (doors at 9pm), especially since Tito's and Sugar Mama's hooked us up with some treats for early arrivals. Just sayin'.

see you at the glam-off!

A message from Claudia.

Claudia! You are such a mad little kitty, but I love you.

(I love you too Ross, for bravely holding her even while she growls.)

I am officially 28 today. Look out world!
