SXSW 2010 recap: She & Him.

I caught She & Him at Lustre Pearl last Friday night, at the Filter/Dickies party. My darling Kerissa, who works for Filter, was by my side.

She & Him's music, as no doubt a lot of you know, is kind of Loretta Lynn-meets-60s California. I have always been intrigued by Zooey Deschanel's vintage sensibilities in general - style, music, etc. - so it was a treat to see her and M. Ward for the first time.  I was surprised by how shy she is on stage! But I guess when you are movie star famous, and people are freaking out right there in front of you, it might be a little weird.

Even though Kerissa and I were able to get close to the stage, my photos from the night are que horrible! So, here are some good ones from Rolling Blackouts.

This video is pretty cute, too. I like it when she asks, "are we in a house?"

Hmm. I like the songs. And I love her general style. Is it her voice? I think her voice bugs me. It reminds of...muppets. Yes, when Zooey D sings, I am distinctly reminded of the muppets.

I do like the muppets though. Conflicted!

It is a good video! Totally reaffirms my girl crush on Zooey! Like, I think she would be a rad BFF :) I was at Lustre Pearl for Rouge Wave, but didn't try to get in later for this show since I didn't have a badge/wristband...I totally should have.

@Breanna, it's funny you mention Muppets. The other day, after I watched "Precious," the Muppets were the ONLY thing I wanted to watch, FOR DAYS.

@Raychelle Well, she & M. Ward seem to dig ol' Austin TX. I think they were here in 2008 for SXSW, and MW was definitely here last year. So I bet you will get your chance!

@Hipstercrite - it's the kind of thing you would see on a store rack, and be like, "eh," then put it on and...adorable-ness.

With all the vintage she wears, I bet Miss Zooey also has a good tailor. So key when you're a vintage shopper.

After an article on them last week and having seen the "karaoke" in 300 days, I picked up the first release. Loved it! Then grabbed the new one Tuesday. She says she is way more shy singing versus acting due to the personal nature of the songs and her lyrics. Makes sense.

@ChrisNAustin - That DOES make sense! (The songs being her own pieces of writing, whereas a script is full of someone else's words). Also, I think there is a vulnerability with singing that everyone feels...unless they have been doing it for a while.

Yes,yes, yes. Zooey D. is gorgeous and super stylish and everything. But what about M.Ward, huh? Talk about a super hunk, in my opinion!
