Countdown to ACL 2009: Them Crooked Vultures
A few things I have realized in the past 24 hours:
A) I am a lisper!
B) If Dave Grohl were a Biblical character, surely he would be Lazarus. Them Crooked Vultures is, what - his fifth band? This man doesn't stop!
Anyway, Them Crooked Vultures were ("was?" Help me out, copy editor) just added to the lineup at this year's ACL, so I decided to investigate on YouTube. Here they are in Belgium, playing a "surprise show" at the Pukkelpop Festival.
I'll be honest - I'm intrigued. Not FLOORED (yet), but I'll take a little more. If Them Crooked Vultures sound a little Led Zeppelin-like to you, that's because John Paul Jones - bassist for Led Zeppelin* - is in the band. Yowza.
Them Crooked Vultures are also playing an after party at Stubbs, and you can get tickets here.
*Opinion poll. Favorite Led Zeppelin song? My first album was Houses of the Holy, so D'yer Mak'er shall always be mine. So sexy.
Your fave?

Brazilian Girls: A MySpace page so hip, it'll make you cry
There are few MySpace pages as aesthetically-pleasing as Brazilian Girls' MySpace page, no?
Brazilian Girls came to our fair city in 2006 for ACL, and I really want them to come back. Especially after watching videos like these:
In the meantime, several other Treasure Island kids are coming to ACL this year, like Girl Talk and Passion Pit.
Maybe we can convince Eddie Vedder to steal Sabina Sciubba's pretty white dress, and hold it ransom until Brazilian Girls come to Austin?? I bet he'd be into it.

Countdown to ACL 2009: Dr. Dog

Dr. Dog My Old Ways
Dr. Dog will be playing this year at ACL on Friday, October 2. I remember seeing them at ACL last year, and falling quite hard for their version of Heart of Races.
Doesn't that video put you in a wonderful mood? And make you want to prance around in homemade masks?
More things that put me in a wonderful mood:
1. Cupcake smackdowns.
2. thisiswhyyourefat.com
3. Watching old My So-Called Life clips.
4. This news story.
5. Chocolate (duh). While on period (double-duh).

Countdownt to ACL 2009: Phoenix

Actually, the "now" part is only halfway true. Phoenix has been around for almost 10 years believe it or not, even though it seems much more recent that we've caught onto them stateside. They're latest album, Wolfgang Amadeus, released on May 25 and has been making its way around the blogosphere. A couple of weeks ago on David Letterman, Phoenix performed one of the most dance-forward tunes from Wolfgang Amadeus, 1901, and they'll be here in Austin at ACL on Friday, October 2. (Person who decided to have ACL in October rather than September this year = genius).
Speaking of dancing, here's the video for "If I Ever Feel Better," a disco groove from Phoenix's early days (2001) that I loved long before I knew they were the band behind it.
