The Handmade's Tale: Austin Handmade Party on Thursday

If there is one thing during Austin Fashion Week that I am REALLY looking forward to, this is it.

Once an online store only, Austin Handmade is now an actual bricks-and-mortar shop on 2009 S. First, and celebrates its Grand Re-opening Party this Thursday. You can read the full press release here, which highlights a fashion show from Parsimony - Robbie Dodson's line of feminine, Charlotte York-relocated-to-Austin inspired frocks - and free drinks from this place.

HOWEVER. The main thing I want to talk about is the cool DIY Room Austin Handmade is unveiling on Thursday, where we can all try our hand (har) at some locally-prepared art kits. Here is an example: a sew-it-yourself Passport Cover Kit.

Print lust! Want want want.

Anyway, we have talked about Austin Handmade here before on Austin Eavesdropper, and this DIY Room concept just reaffirms our positive impressions. Once lumped in with puff-painted wearable art and misshapen clay Christmas ornaments, arts-and-crafts is now the very height of fashion, and we have people like Austin Handmade, Austin Craft Mafia, and The (very hip, new on the scene) WonderCraft to thank for it.

To read more about Austin Handmade's co-founders, the venerable Jason Butler and Catherine Jones, check back in with AE tomorrow for an interview.
